Surprise, Surprise!

Well, yesterday with Sally was great. Incredible even. I don't think I could have planned it better.

I decided I would book a reservation at the hotel, as they tend to get rather full and I wanted to ensure that we got a non-smoking room. There were a couple of tense moments there, as Sally didn't feel all that well yesterday morning and got back from her holiday trip really late the night before. Still, things went pretty much like clockwork.

I got there a bit early (about 1:00) and was politely told by the gal at the desk that check-in was at 3:00. I asked very nicely for the earliest time she could give me, even if it was a smoking room. Sally was planning on leaving work at around 2:00 to meet me. Right about now, I am feeling a bit pressured. Why? Well, I have two surprises planned for her and one requires preparation... but, I am getting ahead of myself.

So I text message Sally to get an estimated departure time. She tells me she's on time. Great. The countdown timer is now ticking. I then ask her to message me when she leaves. The only thing that I need now is the room. I make a few calls from my car and then head into the lobby with my "stuff" (more to follow). It's now about 1:55. Starting to sweat. I know that Sally will be departing soon. Just about right on the hour, the gal behind the desk calls over and says the four magic words -- "your room is ready".

Whew. Hurdle number one down. I grab the keys and beat feet up to the room. I no sooner get in the door and Sally messages me to let me know that she's en route. I text her back with the room number and then start to prepare my surprises.

She had mentioned earlier that it's always a little challenging for her to get my clothing undone. I told her "hmmmm... that gives me an idea", which is the exact lead in that I needed for surprise #1 -- greeting her in the superhero costume that I purchased for her prior to Halloween. I hadn't mentioned it since, so I was pretty confident that she would have no idea that I had this surprise waiting for her

I got into the room and changed. The costume went on quicker than I had expected. It also turns out that I had a bit of good fortune in my room selection. The window overlooked the front entrance of the hotel. I would see Sally walk up and be able to time everything.

I sat there for about 10 minutes and waited. As I expected, I did see her arrive and walk up to the door. To preserve the surprise, I decided that I would leave the door unlatched for her, duck into the bathroom and close that door. I did that and waited for my cue. She came in and closed the door... then she called my name. Upon hearing that I said "just a minute...", paused and then busted out of the bathroom and took her into my arms -- just like any self-respecting superhero would.

Surprise #1 complete!

It worked very well. Yes, as you might expect, the costume did not stay on for long and we had hours of fun together in bed. No new news there. Moving on to surprise #2.

Surprise #2 was about related to a blog posting that she did for me. Normally she doesn't do that. We have agreed not to use blogs to each other. [Editors note: Sally has not been informed of the existence of this blog. She hasn't asked and it hasn't been volunteered. If she ever asked, it would be acknowledged, but likely not shared]. In this case, we both agreed that it was a good thing. As part of this blog posting, she published a playlist of music that she associates with me. As I was looking down it, I notice that there is one song that both of us have in common -- "Misty". As it turns out, I love this song. I sing well and am a professionally trained guitarist. This is one of my favorite songs to play/sing.

I decided that I would perform this song for her. I don't think she ever noticed my guitar in the room, as we were pretty well occupied with each other upon her arrival. After we showered up, I told her about my second surprise and sat down to play it.

At this point, I am used to performing for people. It really doesn't bother me. Performing for Sally does. I am very self-conscious about it. I want it to be perfect for her. I can assure you that this gets in the way of my performing. On top of this, I am not used to playing and singing at the same time, so it's a bit of a challenge for me to do it. I've always either had one role or the other -- play or sing.

I ended up forgetting the words to the start of the second verse as I was playing it. LOL. Yeah, it was like that. Once I got through that, everything just kind of freed up and I could play/sing.  Still, it wasn't without a fair degree of attention on me, instead of attention on her or the music.

We talked later that night via IM and she told me that she really enjoyed it and that no one had ever played/sung/performed for her before. Ever. I told her how much it meant to me that she enjoyed it. She told me that she liked watching me play for her.

Surprise #2 complete!

This too worked very well. I look forward to playing more for her, next chance I get. What fun!

The only other thing to note is that she made a comment to me that was quite interesting. She said (paraphrasing now, of course) that she can't get enough of me and isn't going to send me away again. She has decided that I am going to leave her eventually.

I thought that this was interesting, given my previous posts. I didn't push the issue or make any big deal about it. There is time to work on this and that's fine. Still, it was an interesting comment. Just taking this one day at a time. Not planning too far out into the future. It'll be here soon enough and there will be things to address. In the interim, I expect that we'll just continue loving each other to the best of our abilities.

All in all, this was a great day and I am looking forward to more of it.
